The Upper Room has always been a blessing in my life. For decades, I read it daily to begin my day. In May 1996, I was leaving Egypt where I had been teaching English to first graders in a school started by the Presbyterian Church as a PCUSA Volunteer in Mission. I had 45 students, both Muslim and Christian. I was in my 20s and had no idea what would be next for me.
I waited to read The Upper Room until I was on the plane headed back to America. When I opened to the reading for that day, it was about the people of God leaving Egypt and being nervous about God’s provision for the future. It felt like God was speaking directly to me and that things would be ok. God would be there to guide me along the way as God had always been there for me.
I went on to begin seminary that fall and have had a wonderful life in ministry. I am thankful for God’s loving provision and know that God holds us in the palms of God’s hands.
